Black Host's

Hello Good People, it is I (in my best thespian voice)

So a couple of weeks ago, I watch the Oscars, not cause it was the popular thing on television, but because of what the Oscars in its essence represents. So of course for me while watching the host, Seth McFarlane, I began to wonder. How many black Oscar's host have there been in the past? I had forgot about this question, until this past weekend when I was watching Saturday Night Live (SNL) and Kevin Hart was hosting, and it made me remember, yet ask, I wonder what other black host have there been on SNL.

So like I usually do lets begin this list and see were it goes shall we......

2014
Kerry Washington
Drake
Kevin Hart

2015
Tarij P. Henson

2016

2017

2018

2019

So it is now Jan 1, 2019, and apparently I started this post back in 2014, I'm going to post it now so I can go back and work on it.

SNL So Black on 11/12/16

Well well well, I see I have clearly been neglecting this blog this year, and there have been so many great things in media, this year, and definitely within the last two week. Because these Obama and Biden memes are life saving!

Before I get caught up on this tangent about Obaden (Yup, I'm keeping that one) memes. Let me tell ya'll about this past weekend on Saturday Night Live (SNL) with Dave Chappelle hosting.

Look, I have only recently been adamantly watching SNL over the past couple of seasons. As a researcher in pop culture and media, finding the blackness in media has become my thing. So let me tell you about SNL and why it was not just black, but SO BLACK.

First lets just look at the opening monologue......

In the last couple of black hosts, there have been none, if not very few (I'm pretty sure none though), have although being on NBC have pretty much done there opening monologue around blackness.

Then.... They had A Tribe Called Quest (ATCQ) as their musical guest. Missed it? Here is one of the performances.....

Not to mention, Busta Rhymes came on stage at the end of the second performance. And there was another black man that was on stage with them too, not sure who he was. But I will find his name.

Then did you not see she blackening of one the most recognizable and viewed television shows currently on television, The Walking Dead.

Look. At. This!

They even put in a quick "PSA" at the end of the skit.

I don't think I have nothing more to really add why this episode of SNL was SO BLACK......except the face that Chris Rock made an appearance, and that overall the most black people on this one episode.........yea, say EVER!.  Don't think so, prove me wrong. I'm willing to concede.

and just for the sake of counting

Dave Chappelle
Chris Rock
A Tribe Called Quest (3)
Busta Rhymes and the other guy
Micheal Che
Leslie Jones
Kenan Thompson

I dont think there were on any skits that epsiod?!?!

The Black List: Marvel vs DC Comics: Television

Welcome back to Tha Media Thoughts, the place where I come to put down thoughts, views, other random things that resolve around various forms of media.

So in a previous and similar post, The Black List: Marvel vs DC Comics: Film, I went through to look at how well and disproportionate the two major comic companies are doing in other forms of media when it comes to black people. Give me some time in the future and I'll to people of color period.

With the rising increase and popularity of television shows coming from Marvel and DC Comics, there is one thing that is certain; You have find people to cast all these main characters, supporting characters, villains, and then the characters that fill in the vacant plot areas, such as friends, love interests, employers, etc.  In this list, which will be an ongoing updated list much like my More Black Presidents Please List . I am going to try and be as accurate as I can, and I am definitely going to need some help in case I miss anything. The most difficult situation in composing this list as opposed to the Films, is that you have a lot of random people in various episodes, unlike just the main and supporting actors. For this television list, I will only include reoccurring characters and as far back in television shows as possible. So I have operationalized how the characters will appear on the list. Characters will be listed as long as they have appeared in a minimal of 10 epsiodes. Yes I understand that some shows have been on for a couple of seasons, but storylines change and characters leave or get killed off. So 10 it is, and to get Honorable Mention means they appeared in at least 3 episodes.

Clearly, we know that at this present moment, DC TV is winning this list, just because they have been doing television for a while now....and as a hardcore Marvelite, I will just have to accept this at the present time.

LET'S GET TO IT!

DC

Smallville
- - Pete Ross
-- Dr. MacIntyre (Honorable Mention)
- - Amanda Waller (Honorable Mention)
- - Tess Assistant (Honorable Mention)
- - Dr. Claire Foster (Honorable Mention)
- - Connelly (Honorable Mention)
- - Agent Stocker (Honorable Mention)
- - Dale Ross (Honorable Mention)
- - Victor Stone (Honorable Mention)
- - Robert Pontius (Honorable Mention)

Birds of Prey
- - Jesse Resse

Arrow
- - John Diggle
- -  Amanda Waller
- - Ben Turner/Bronze Tiger (Honorable Mention)

The Flash
- - Iris West
- - Detective West

Gotham
- - Fish Mooney
- -  Crispus Allen
- -  Zsasz Henchwoman #1 (Honorable Mention)

Constatine
- - Manny
-- Papa Midnite (Honorable Mention)

Marvel

Marvel Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D
- B J Britt - Antoine Triplett
- J. August Richards - Mike Peterson
- Christine Adams - Agent Weaver (Honorable Mention)
- Blair Underwood - Dr. Andrew Garner (Honorable Mention)

Agent Carter
NONE - which is kind of not surprising considering the time frame it took place in.

Blade
-Sticky Fingaz -  Blade

Of course this list will keep growing like many other posts that I have....maybe in the coming years the list will expand drastically......or maybe not.

The Black List: Marvel vs DC Comics Films

Well, first let me say, that to those that come and read my blog,  I am sorry that I have not been posting at all and not as much I use to. Life has been happening, I am back in school and working to finish my second Masters in Educational Technology (An online program, GO GREEN, *Michigan State University if you didn't know that*), I started and pretty much done with my bartender class *if I ever sit and study to pass my speed test*, and my job is ending this coming Friday, so I guess I will be able to have more time post more. BUT THANK YOU ALL for coming back and reading.

So while I was working on my school work as I usually do on Sunday nights, I stumbled across the Batman, yes the original Micheal Keaton one. It dawned on me as I saw Billy Dee Williams for the hot second, as they referred to him as Harvey Dent. From there a thought that has been on repeat for so long has finally lead me to put this post down. You know, being a black geek, and truly into comics I can't help but get excited when I see a black person in a Marvel or DC Film. Not the background people, but the supporting actors/actresses (cause they have yet to have a LEADING black actor/actress in a Marvel or DC film *patiently waiting for Black Panther MARVEL!*) So I decided to start another on going list much like, the Black Presidents post when I first started this blog. So here it is.......keep in mind more will get added, as it goes on...some are obvious, cause they actually are black characters, some others that had roles that you might have over looked,  and some had their fair share of back lash.....but the list must go on.

Marvel Films

Amazing Spider-man 2 : Jamie Foxx :  Electro

Blade : Wesly Snipes: Blade

Black Panther: Chad Boseman (already confirmed)

DareDevil : Micheal Clarke Duncan: Kingpin

Captain America: The First Avenger:  Derek Luke : Gabe Jones

Captain American: Winter Soldier ; Anthony Mackie: Falcon

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance: Idris Alba : Moreau

Iron Man : Terrance Howard : Lt. Jame Rhodes

Iron Man 2 & 3 : Don Cheadle: Lt. James Rhodes/War Machine/Iron Patriot

Marvel Movies: Samuel L. Jackson : Nick Fury

Thor & Thor 2 : Idris Alba : Heimdall

Guardian of the Galaxy: Dijmon Hounsou : Korath the Pursuer

Guardians of the Galaxy: Zoe Saladana: Gamora

Guardian of the Galaxy : Vin Diesel : Groot (Voice)

Wolverine Origins : Will.i.Am : John Wraith

X-Men: First Class: Edi Garthegi : Armando Munoz/Darwin

X-Men Films : Halle Berry : Storm

X-Men: Days of  the Future Past : Omar Sy : Bishop

X-Men Days of the Future Past: Jaa-Smith Johnson : Mutant Solider (remember that random mutant at the army base that made the other sick and the bio-hazard sign show on his palm, with the spike hair, yea that guy.)

DC Films

Batman (1989): Billy Dee Williams : Harvey Dent

Superman III (1983) : Richard Pryor: Gus Gorman

Constantine (2005) : Dijmon Hounsou : Papa Midnite

Christopher Nolan  Batman Trilogy: Morgan Freeman : Lucis Fox

Man of Steel (2013) : Laurence Fishburne : Perry White

Clearly! we see who is winning in the diversity arena. I'm just saying.

Of course the list will continue, but these are the names I could remember off the top of my head....

If you got a name, send it to me or comment, and I'll add it with your name by it.

As Always these are my thought......What are Yours?

Happy New Year Sasheer Zamata!!! YAY SNL.

Well first off let me say, HAPPY NEW YEAR WORLD!!!! 2014 is here, Special salute to all of those that just want to do better than they did last year, I salute you. For Real

Now I have been trying to figure out what I wanted to be my first post of the year, and sure enough, it came to me. /Actually it was sent to me in a hangout chat/ So here it is.

But before I get to the main point, lets review something first. Remember this just from a couple of months ago.

FINALLY!!!!!! After multiple discussions, and all the controversy that most of already knew, and a lot of us just ignored. The black comedic female "Neo" has come!! //Neo as in The Matrix and Black Greek Letter Organizations// Yes, the savior and newbie....HAS COME TO Saturday Night Live "SNL"
Sasheer Zamata

I just want to say, I am truly ecstatic about watching SNL now. I use to watch it before, and a lot of it to me was hit or miss. But now, I am about to set my DVR to record it all time. So Ms. Zamata, Way To Go!!! I'll be watching.

I haven't seen any of her material, but I do hope she is funny, and not just on SNL, because you want to have a black female cast member. Tokenism is what it is, but can be used to one's advantage... regardless that post will be coming later on. Her debut will be Jan. 18th, tune in.

I think I might have a new crush.....haha

Scandal "A Door Marked Exit" S3/Ep10 Season Finale

DID.YOU.SEE.WHAT.HAPPENED.

First let me say, I WAS RIGHT ABOUT MOMMA POPE IN MY LAST POST. Well I was pretty close. See it here at the bottom of Scandal Yolo post

It was sooooooooooo much in that first 7 Min!

Sally, Sally Sally......you truly completed SNAPPED, in pieces class fragments only vacuum can get. In the famous word of 2Pac, " I aint no killer, but don't push me"  AND THEN you call the newly social media dubbed (Twitter) Cyrus The Cleaner.  Truth be told, Cyrus been cleaning things up since DAY 1......come on Sally get it together.  But that moment that doctor touched him, she was all way in it. "Nobody touches him" job well done. And you now know, every time somebody mention Daniel Douglas in heaven you gonna flip out....watch your self.

Huck, I wish they would have let Huck "Whiskey" Quinn. Quinn is out here all messed up in the game. Whatever happened to the little misplaced Quinn that just wanted to be useful and on the team. Huck should have never started showing her the "Force", AND NOW, her ass on the "Darkside"

This is all I know, Joe Morton, SIR, I wish I could just shake your hand after the Daddy Pope and Fitz scene. THAT RIGHT THERE!!!!, Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. "That is a matter of national security, Mr. President, That is above your pay grade" And then Fitz come with the "I'm screwing her you know". How better to get a father's approval.

YOU ARE A BOYYYYYY!!!!  YOU LOVE THAT SHE IS A DOOR MARKED EXIT!!!! SADLY BOYY, I KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUU!

Jake, (Hi Five to you sir). Cause you are about the one of only few people to GO ALLLLL THE WAY OFF ON Liv, and she remain silent........BUT THEN you make your grand exit.......TO BECOME COMMAND!!! Who better than somebody that have been on both sides. "I guess you got the Juice Now" (Movie: Juice,1992)

Man, this Cyrus and James situation is something else. I swear every time Cyrus mess up BIG, James come out on top. Interview with Millie, Baby, New Position in White House. Clearly on the brighter note, Cyrus is the reason for James successes, despite James' credentials. James does manage to one up Cyrus

ALLLLLLLLL I KNOW, is that Leo........that dude, Leo!!!! STRAIGHT RIDE OR DIE........."If you kill somebody, you call me"

So the truth comes out about Momma Pope. I can't lie, she seem very B613 qualified. I look forward to see how she plays out in the next season. But it definitely does sum

Next Season: Feb 27:

So much to have to wait and see.

How Charlie and Quinn will grow, and how well Quinn fits in at Wonderland, I am sure she will come back to being a Gladiator or be killed off,

How will Sally play now, that since she pretty much can not run for President, that is a for sure no go.

Daddy Pope not Command and Jake is, I am curious to see how this goes. I mean technically you got an ex-gladiator on your squad (Quinn)

I wonder how will Daddy Pope and Liv will play now, will Sunday dinners truly resume? All the secrets are out now, and he not Command no more.

And I still need to know what is going on with Harrison's back story.

Okay, now what am I to do until 2/27/14.......

What are your thoughts....
